Active Holidays - Baleal, Peniche, Portugal

We provide fun surf lessons adapted to each individual experience and skills. Classes are taught by experienced, certified instructors. We will make sure that you are having the best time of your life catching waves. Each surf lesson takes 2 hours.

On the first lesson our surf instructors will give you a proper introduction to the sport of surfing and science behind it, including the detailed explanation of about safety. In the water, the instructor will be by your side, giving you tips and pushing you to help you catch waves until you develop your paddle to do so on your own. In a weekly program we also include photo and video analysis.

Last but not least, as our student you will receive the appropriate equipment for your needs and level of surfing, as we have a wide range of surfboards and wetsuits at your disposal.

Cross Training is a dynamic, full-body workout that consists of functional movements performed at high intensity, and we assure you that it will take your fitness to the next level. We work with the Minimal Indispensable Dose Training principles, meaning we do not over-train or push to hard. That way we make sure we are improving our fitness without sacrificing performance in other sports.

Limestone cliffs facing the sun, perfect for half a day outing when the surf is flat. From the crags we can view the beautiful coastline of the Silver Coast, one of the best touristic regions in Portugal. The area is close to the Cabo Carvoeiro lighthouse, one of the most western points in Europe. We do top or bottom rope, some areas are equipped for sports climbing, and there is also an area for traditional climbing (we do not supply the equipment for this one).

Discover the transparent and amazing underwater world of Berlengas, a small archipelago located about 10 km west of Peniche classified as a Nature Reserve since September 3, 1981. Its marine reserve is classified as a “Biosphere Reserve” by the Council of Europe since 2011 and “World Biosphere Reserve” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The Berlenga Nature Reserve is a unique place due to its transparent sea and underwater treasures. It is a marine reserve and has been classified by the Council of Europe as a “Biosphere Reserve”. The archipelago consists of a large island, Berlenga Grande, and some small granite islands and rocks (Estelas and Farilhões), which are situated some 7 miles off the headland of Cabo Carvoeiro to the north-west of Peniche. The island of Berlenga Grande can be seen from the mainland when there is no sea mist. Here you will find endemic species of flora, as well as one of the preferred nesting sites for sea birds.

Built on a rock adjacent to the Berlenga island and connected to it by a small bridge, there stands the Forte de São João Baptista, a Manueline military fortress built in 1502.The island’s tiny beaches with their clear blue sea are very beautiful and ideal for swimming and diving.

Access to the island is by boat, with departures from Peniche harbor. It takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Berlenga Grande. There is also a restaurant on the island.
